Artikel 140 features and offers a couple of services:

  1. A wordpress website  (and a redirect of a registered domain).
  2. A forward mail-adres for projects
  3. Owncloud service (The software is still in beta fase) A service like dropbox, incl. Webdav.
  4. Forum’s based on PHPBB3
  5. A rich database of logo’s, photos,pictures to make stencils and posters

In the feature we will install the neat internet application Etterpad. This is an application where you can edit a document from different computers in realtime, i.e.: press releases.

Apart from offering services to activists we want to create and to educate people how to create a security culture around internet and other communicative methods.

After a couple of months we decided to place our server (or rather the NEW server) in a data-center. We’ll keep you updated about it.

In the meanwhile we did a lot of things:
1. The battle around jokekaviaar.nl (takedown of the police)
2. Hosted and migrated a lot of websites
3. Giving security awareness lectures to grass-root activists
4. Writing manuals
5. Giving support of building sites/blogs
6. Fund raising.
7. Building redundancy for critical websites

 

 

Dutch Goverment publicizes paper about cyberthreats and security

Cybersecuritybeeld Nederland (PDF)

Just a day after we publicized a call-out to build a bridge between hacktivists and grassroots activists, the department of justice and security publicized a 60 pages thick paper about security threats and security.

 

We  posted  the paper on this website  and  translated some parts…

Snapshots:
Because of the the great importance of cybersecurity  there has been a national cybersecurity strategy created. This paper  is the realization of adequate actual threat and risk analysis. With the publication of this paper, we made the first step to get in action.

“Also hactivists and scriptkiddies are busy with disrupting and abusing IT. Terrorists are using IT primary for their purposes, like propaganda and to gain more members.  Players like the state, private organizations and civilians are the potential targets for threats.”

Hactivists are out to publicize of  confidential information about the government and to sabotage private organizations.  The targets of hactivists is quite unpredictable and there’s no difference either the target is public or private, almost all the time personal information is in the game. The threat is small, but is growing bigger.

Artikel-140.nl communique #1 ‘A callout to hacktivists’

We call out to all the hacktivists in The Netherlands and abroad, to stand
side by side with activists. The year 2011 brought to us a new front. From
Anonymous, Tahrir Square to Indymedia techies.

There is a new era coming where activists are not only fighting in the
streets, but also on the Internet. Whether this is on the Tahrir Square
in Egypt or in some basement in The Netherlands. In our struggle we have
common goals and opinions.

Thought crime: Take down of a website from a political activist

Artikel-140 is on the moment hosting the website http://13-september.nl.

On september 13th this year (2011) the Dutch anarchist writer and No Borders activist Joke Kaviaar was arrested on charges of ‘incitement’. Her house was searched thoroughly during 5 hours, and computers, memory sticks, hard drives, CD roms, and several other materials were confiscated or photographed.

She was held in police custody for three days, under full restrictions. No information from the outside could reach her and vice versa, because her lawyer was also bound by these restrictions.
During these three days she found out that she was also being charged with ‘terrorist intent’. Friends and comrades only heard about all of this after she was unexpectedly released.

When she was released, some geeks helped Joke to build redundancy in the system. They made mirrors and encouraged other people to do as well. Yesterday (8th of December 2011), the police took down her website. Within minutes they switched over to  the mirror websites.  Artikel-140.nl is proudly supporting and hosting the website http://13-september.nl and the  mirror of Joke Kaviaar’s website on: http://joke.artikel-140.nl

*Update* After a couple of hours working, geeks had the website http://www.jokekaviaar.nl up & running again. Once again the government fails!
